Why spend your winters hip-deep in snow! Here, at Double E Ranch, the weather is always just fine!
New Mexico is a haven for the unexpected. A place for those who seek to follow their own path. It’s an attitude. A way of life. It’s adventure in its truest form. And, it's waiting for you!
Double E Ranch Vacation Houses and Vacation Cabin Rentals was inspired by our love of sharing western lifestyle and the magic of southwestern New Mexico.
In 1996, Debbie and Alan Eggleston purchased Double E Ranch and for 18 years, they operated it as a working cattle, horse and guest ranch. The specialty at Double E Ranch was providing guests with the unique opportunity to experience the undiluted, real sensations of southwestern New Mexico ranch life.
Now retired, they've decided to enjoy a slower pace, but continue to offer you a unique opportunity to experience just a taste of life on a southwestern New Mexico ranch. Your own cabin, your own time schedule, meals when you want to cook them, road trips when you want to plan them - all from the comfort of your fully furnished cabin. You bring only your food, beverages, personal items and a smile!
Use our cabins to explore the entire southwestern U.S. -- New Mexico, Arizona and Texas -- from the comfort of your "home away from home". With the sun just beginning to peek over the mountain, enjoy that first cup of coffee or tea, absorbing the sights and sounds of what "peaceful" really means. Just about sunset, from the rocker on your deck, put your feet up, watch the mountains change from rocky rust, to stunning, vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows while saying 'adios' to another healing day.
Although we are at 5,000 feet elevation and are considered 'high desert', we are far enough south to have mild weather in every season comparred to most other parts of the country. Our winters are very similar to Tucson, AZ – 48F to 72F in January/February! When the sun comes up above the mountain the temperature warms quickly. Skies are blue, the air is clean and crisp, and with an average of 300 days annually of sunshine. In southwestern New Mexico, the weather is nearly perfect! Summers in our part of southwest New Mexico are warmest from mid-June to August, averaging 85-98 F. Average humidity levels hover between 10% - 40%. Evenings cool down to low 70's, usually a soft breeze. Average rainfall of 9 - 15 inches annually. Sit on your covered deck, watch the thunder clouds develop and listen to the rain hitting melodically on your tin roof. Quickly passing, the air is cool, clean and crisp. Spectacular!
Feel free to walk about on our 360 acres that adjoins nearly 15 square miles of public lands. With a short 20 minute drive you can be on the edge of the legendary Gila National Forest and Gila Wilderness and 3 million acres! At Double E Ranch you can either stroll nearly 2 miles of our privately protected riparian area along Bear Creek or travel your own path. We don't "make" your tails. You get to blaze your own! Climb to the top of Turtle Rock and explore "Apache Corral". Wander the ridges looking for the ancient homes of the Mimbres Indians who lived along Bear Creek 1100 to 1300 years ago.
Wild life is abundant, with hundreds of native and migratory birds, deer, brown bear, javelina, coatmundi and Rocky Mountain Big Horn Sheep. At night you can expect to experience brilliant stars, planets and the Milky Way spread across a clear, dark New Mexico sky.
From the convenient location of your cabin, you can easily access some of the most beautiful sites in New Mexico and the southwest, including Silver City, Glenwood, Las Cruces, Carlsbad Caverns, Ruidoso and Santa Fe to name just a few easy day trip options. Interesting art galleries, museums, restaurants and wineries are an easy drive from the ranch. Day trips to either Arizona or Texas are convenient, with plenty to see and experience.
Grant County is still rural. Ranching remains a very important part of the local economy. A few miles from your cabin, the Gila River flows all the way to Arizona and beyond. Canoe-ing, tubing, fishing or simply listening to the water move are all easy to do. Botique Air, a commuter air service provides daily flights to Albuquerque and Phoenix where you can make connections to anywhere. El Paso (3 hours away) has a very nice International airport with easy access, easy parking. Phoenix International Airport is 5 hours drive.
At Double E Ranch Vacation Houses and Cabins you can really BREATH!! You'll easily be able to disconnect from the frenetic race of urban lifestyles. Our fully furnished, self catered cabins contain everything needed to make your experience relaxing, convenient and restful.
The area offers diverse activities, events and places to keep you interested and entertained.
Just outside your cabin door, you have hiking, privately protected riparian birding areas, amazing star gazing under clear dark New Mexico skies, mountain biking. Local eateries offer smoked meats, BBQ, home made pies and every kind of Pizza you can dream up. The Village of Gila has an art gallery, post office, health clinic, library, senior center, recreation center with tennis court, seveal different denominational churches. During certain times of the year enjoy fishing or tubing in the Gila River, just 6 miles down the road. Plan a day drip to White Sands National Monument, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. Option are limitless!
